These are excellent activities involving writing and reflection in microeconomics, macroeconomics and international economics. See especially the ‘Acquisition of Threshold Concepts in Economics’ and ‘Improving the Quality of Students’ Economic Arguments’ in Current Projects.

The Federal Reserve banks coordinate their lessons, publications, and information for teachers at this site. Check out the links to the other Feds as well, especially San Francisco.

Powell Center for Economic Literacy

This is a resource for teachers and students across the country, with lesson plans, curricula, and information on learning opportunities in the field of economics. The offerings of the Powell Center can be applied in any school environment, by teachers or administrators who are interested in improving students’ understanding of economics.

Lessons, games, calculators for elementary, middle, and high school students, plus parents and SPANISH-LANGUAGE materials are on this website. It also correlates lessons to Illinois State Standards in English, math and social studies.

See especially the curriculum MoneyMath, which addresses financial literacy for middle-school students. The overall site has facts and games for kids to learn what bonds are, how they can be purchased, and how they mature.

This is an excellent FREE site with cartoon stories to teach good decision making and basic economics to children (K-2), with brief quizzes and prizes at the end of each story.

This excellent market simulation teaches children how the stock market works, as well as other economic and personal finance lessons. Participate in InvestWrite, a teacher-designed writing competition created to reinforce students’ critical thinking skills.
